Royal Visit Havelock

Royal Visit Havelock

Havelock decorated for His Royal Highness, Edward, Prince of Wales Visit in 1920. Showing decorations in Lucknow Street, the Town Hall far left and the Commercial Hotel. The prince attracted very large crowds wherever he went, his visit to New Zealand was part of a series of tours of the empire that took place over several years. Its purpose was to recognise and thank all those countries that had supported Britain during the First World War – while also shoring up enthusiasm for the empire itself.
