The men who built this road over 120 years ago used explosives to blow out portions of the rocky cliffs in order to build the road. The rest was done by hand, because obviously heavy machinery like diggers didn’t exist back then. And it is by far one of the most terrifying roads I have ever had the pleasure of travelling along. Winding through and down the canyon, it’s no surprise that Skippers Canyon Tours advise tourists to not travel in their personal vehicles through the canyon. There were several times I looked out my bus window and could see nothing but a steep drop to the river below.
