Havelock Timber Workers

Havelock Timber Workers

A pretty typical logging scene - possibly Brownlee Mill workers. Note -  the bush tramway on the right of photograph with horse on the line AND the size of the native trees being felled. It has been recorded that during operations (1864 to 1915) the Brownlee Mills extracted 189 million lengths of timber from the following areas; Mahakipawa, Kaituna, Havelock, Nydia Bay, Kaiuma Bay & Blackball. This amount would comprise about 60% Rimu, 30% White Pine, 10% Matai and Totara.
