Havelock Lucknow Street

The name "Havelock" commemorates Sir Henry Havelock (1795-1857), known from the Siege of Lucknow during the Indian Rebellion of 1857. The streets of Havelock were laid out in 1858, with Lucknow Street as the main thoroughfare. Sadly another lapse in local history in present times referred to mainly as SH6 (State Highway 6) or Main Road.

The siege of Lucknow: Major General Sir Henry Havelock role in 1857's Indian Mutiny. Henry Havelock was a British Major General who won fame during the Indian Mutiny of 1857. His military successes include his recapture of Cawnpore and the retaking of Lucknow before he died of dysentery shortly after the siege.
