Havelock From The Beach Front

Havelock From The Beach Front

Looking towards the central business area of Havelock from the harbour with Mount Takoreke rising above the Town. The small building and sheds right on the waters edge would appear to be the first wharf facilities as stock yards are also evident to the right of this. Nevertheless, 1864 began with people piggy-backed ashore at low tide, progressed to a handful of rickety jetties of sorts and ended with the Marlborough Provincial Council building a jetty at the cost of two hundred and fifty pounds, this was located at the foot of Inglis Street – but in time also silted up with sediment from both the Kaituna & Pelorus rivers.
