Flat Creek Bridge Havelock

A fatal accident is recorded by the local photographer James Raglan Akersten of Havelock on the 27th March 1915. It was recorded in the Marlborough Express Newspaper 29th March 1915 as follows; BLENHEIM This Day. Fred Peterson, a chauffeur who was driving a party from Havelock on Sunday morning, collided with a bridge at Flat Creek. The occupants were thrown into the creek, and were not injured. Peterson, however, struck the railing of he bridge and sustained terrible internal injuries. He was removed to the hospital (Wairau Hospital Blenheim and attended by Dr J.F. Bennett, the Medical Superintendent) where he succumbed this morning. He was a married man, with a wife and child.
