Fiordland - Mitre Peak, Milford Sound

Fiordland - Mitre Peak, Milford Sound

The Mitre Peak climb & guided ascent is varied with steep snow tussock, rock climbing, travel across knife edge ridges, huge exposure and incredible views of Milford Sound and Fiordland’s Mountains.

The Mitre Peak climb and guided ascent requires a good level of fitness and climbers should feel comfortable with basic rock climbing and moving on steep exposed terrain. Mitre Peak is the most prominent peak from Milford Sound and a New Zealand tourism icon. Despite being well known the peak has relatively few ascents every summer season.

10/4/1958 Milford Hotel Dear Anne and Harry, After Dunedin and Invercargill we arrived here yesterday and "enjoy" the torrential rain. The hotel is firstclass, the Milford Sound so beautiful, can hardly describe it. This morning motor boat trip on the fjord, in spite of rain it was well worth while. Tomorrow off to Queenstown. Many thanks for letter and parcel with ???, which is very useful and biscuits. All the best to you.

With love from Harold (or Haralt) Peter (or Peber)
