The township is nestled under and around Mount Takorika. In this view can be seen the northern end of Lucknow Street and the the wharf protruding into the harbour from the foot of Inglis Street. Looking seaward Cullen's point is in the foreground, a direct right around this point takes you into the Mahakipawa Arm. The open sea viewed beyond this point is the Mahau Sound.
